  • What do you think??

Ok so I have decided to purchase a hornady LNL progressive press and with that press now comes 500 free bullets. Now I will be buying dies for my 6.5 of course as well as my 7mm mag, 30.30 and my .45acp to start so basically will be getting 900 bullets for free.

I decided to do all the 100's on the other guns but the 500 for my Grendel. Now the catch, (there is always one). Hornady will only do bullets from their custom line which do not include any AMAX or SST. So my choices for 6.5 are either 100gr soft pt or 129gr interlock. Now I plan to use them on hogs so I am leaning toward the 129's but wanted to check with the Grendel family prior to making a decision.

if youre confident in head shots, go for the 100's. If not and yo dont want to pass up any shots, get the 129's. The 129's should penetrate just fine, as Ive killed many hogs with a 50-55 grain .223 load, some through the shoulder

When I bought mine there weren't any 6.5 choices so I went with pistol bullets. I'd go 129s if your planning on using them for hogs.

Same here. It was pistol bullets for me ( and a limited selection at that.)

Ok so the general feeling is the same as I was considering which are the 129gr pills. Not shooting long distance for the hogs so not worried about getting more than 2400fps. I have read some were getting good results with leverreveloution powder and the larger bullets but I would like to see so really solid work up numbers on that.

Get the .224 pills. Sell them to the idiots on gunbroker, and use the proceeds to buy the 123gr amax or sst.

              Not a bad plan that.
              But go for the 129s

My dealer talked me into a Dillion 650 when I started reloading and I haven't looked back that said hornady makes nice stuff as well I was going to pickup a lock and load for a single stage until I caught a deal on a rcbs I like hornady dies and have 5 sets of them but haven't ever sent off for the bullets on thing of note when it comes to hand gun dies the Dillion carbide dies are worth the extra coin in my opinion that said welcome to reloading

                  Why 650 over 550?

I went with the 650 over the 550 for the safety of the powder check station which prevents loading a squib or double it is actually pretty sensitive I have had it alarm with odd ball brass also the 650 has automatic indexing and easy mounting of case feeder for foster loading but my dealer recommended staying with the 650 over the 1050 as the 1050 is a commercial rated machine and doesn't have the unconditional lifetime warranty of the consumer machines

The customer service at million is well worth the extra cost when you break something you just call them and the put it in the mail I have only broken a few this but they were replaced no questioned asked I shaped a die plate retaining pin using a present wrench instead of a die wrench I had the replacement pin within 3 days and they are in Arizona and I am in Michigan I once broke my 9mm shell plate and case feed plate when I crushed a case that turned sears against the die also replaced no questions asked and I also broke a million branded inertia bullet puller pulling apart a bunch of 357 Sig rounds that were crap loaded on ribs dies (million makes a set of carbide 357 Sig dies but they are double the price of straight walled dies and I was being cheap I own them now) also replaced no questions asked so when possible I give million my business and try to encourage others to do so

I Like Hornady products and have used them through out the years. Many of my coworkers have the dillon 550b and one has the 650. I like the auto indexing as well and the all those bullets did it for me. I would have been in a bit of a box if dillon had that same type of offer going.

Plus the hornady press $130 than the 650xl plus the free bullets though I do recomend picking up a single stage press for the larger rounds like the 7mm mag I have the stuff to load magnums on my Dillion (I bought a progresive first) I have done it once the auto indexing becomes a hassle on large cases its easier to do them one at a time and for the price of a conversion you can buy a single stage press

Not impressed with the progressive for 7mm? I have seen some run 06 shells thru the progressive with good results.

don't get me it worked fine i was loading 300 win mag the magnum cases didn't feed all that well the big powder charge is is kind of a pain some of the magnum powder doesn't meter all that well i just found it easier to load them on a single stage press and weigh the charges

my opinion unless you shoot a lot of the same load of 7 mag for f class or something i would load the 7 mag on a single i load all my pistol and high volume rifle on my dillion and big rifle and small batches on the single stage

From what I've heard the LNL tends to be more rifle caliber friendly than the Dillons so you should be fine with 7mm on your new press.

I just wish Hornady would come out with the bullet feed die for rifle calibers that they've been promising for well over a year. Not sure what'll come first, that die or steel cased Grendel ammo.
