  • Is BATFE slowing importation?

I called Lothar-Walther (GA) today to inquire about my overdue barrel. I was told that BATFE is now imposing some procedural moves that complicate and delay importation of AR parts. He assured me that it would eventually come and that the BATFE moves are not stopping importation, just slowing things down "industry-wide." Has anyone else heard of this (latest) BATFE stuff?

What AR15 parts are they claiming are imported? Barrels?

A lot of critical parts are back-ordered, and it looks as if we're in the Obacalypse Part II. Gonna be another record year for sales.

yes our industry was slammed in feb and there ar people that have stopped taking orders, we our also no 13-16 weeks behind...but i cant think or any parts the would have to import on an ar.it is just much easier and without a confrontation to tell a customer hey so and so is doing this vs explain that they took an order knowing they were that far behind.

I know LW makes good barrels, but it seems like they always give the craziest reasons to their customers over the years for their backlogs/delays. Never a simple "we are behind due to volume" answer, it's always someone else's fault.

In LW's partial defense--- I think they do get blanks from Germany, or at least I think they did, and then Woody chambers them here...? Some one more knowledgeable can chime in...

Lothar-Walther barrel blanks did used to come from Germany.. I can't see why they would change..

Woody huh?? It's good to see he is still around..

I gave him fits more than a dozen years ago when I wanted my barrel cut with the pre-64 Winchester profile.. The over all profile wasn't the problem.. It was with the dog knot for the rear sight.. I had Woody's number almost memorized <grin>..

A real good guy with which to work.. Though it took over a year, he really came through..

It's sad IMO how people can't just be honest in general. They give an answer that they think will lead them down the path of least resistance. 99.9% of the time honesty will do just that but some people just don't get it.

I think LW may be telling the truth on this one, or at least there is some truth to it, but I don't know for sure.

LW told me that they have no fluting machinery here in the states and that is why my blank was coming from Germany (after fluting). He offered me the option of deleting my fluting request and the barrel could then be made entirely here. I opted to wait.
