    6.5 Grendel magazines

What is everyone using? I have a couple ELander 17 rounds and a 25 round that I can't think of the name. I'm having issues with the bolt picking up a round unless the bolt is locked back and allowed to slam forward. The rifle is new (20 rounds down range) and I've been fighting this since it was put together. I can't remember where I Got the upper (it was a budget upper) but I don't think it's an upper issue as much as possibly a magazine issue. When firing semi auto, it does pick up the next round. When I run dry, the bolt does lock back.

*Edited to add* It is a PSA 18" complete upper w/ BCG

Asc, cpd (duramags) work best for me, but I limit myself to 10 rounders, I don't want a long mag sticking down out of my rifle.

These tests were with a max of three rounds in each mag.

Make sure the gas is correct before going to messing with mags.

I agree with A5B as most PSA 6.5 Grendel uppers use an adjustable gas block. It sounds like the upper might need more gas.

Yes. The PSA's adjustable gas blocks can be anywhere from way over to way under. I had to turn my way back to achieve proper cycling with different ammo. And I use mostly ASC in my Grendels.

I have one Elander 4 round and numerous ArStoner 5 & 10 round which I am sure they are made by ASC and I have never had a problem with function with any in two different rifles. There is a couple things I don't like about the Elander mags. One is the cost and the second is that you can't load a COAL as long with them as the ASC/Stoner mags will allow. Yes it sounds like you need to adjust your gas for proper function.

I have 2 ASC 5 Round mags. So far so good but I have only run about 100 rounds through the gun.

I have settled on the CPD and ASC 10 rounders. Being principally a whitetail rifle these work best for my purposes.

Why are we suggesting the gas system? As I stated above, the rifle cycles fine. The only issue I have is trying to feed the first round. This is what lead me to believe I have a magazine issue. Are there any other issues that would cause the first round not to pull from the mag? Again, when shooting, the bolt cycles and feeds rounds fine and the bolt does lock back when empty. This leads me to believe the gas system is working as designed.
