    lets talk about the grendel

so i have been doing some reading and i just want to be sure i understand things correctly

    barrel - sammi spec w/ 1-8 twist
    bolt - type 2 .136 face

with all the variations i have seen around the web, it can get confusing.

now as for manufacturers that do this i was thinking of odinworks
(will have to wait a bit longer but im in no hurry)
requirements are: stainless, 20" hbar(im in md, its a state thing)
    any other recommendations?

i have yet to buy anything, i think stripped upper will be first.
heck i may get an odinworks kit
thats still up in the air
    but i would prefer a barrel/bolt combo

so any input from the horde?
i know everyone starts a thread like this

in case you ask about budget, i dont know yet. if its super expensive i may have to save a while.

From what I here Odinworks makes a good barrel and their parts or good also.

If it were me I would part it out and build it myself, price goes up that way but you get to use only parts that you want to use and you get on the gun training while putting it together.

Yes sammi chamber and bolt with .136 bolt face

Looks like your on the right track! Get the correct chamber and bolt, all else is typical AR15 goodness.

Depends on your definition of accuracy. What do you want it for and how accurate does it have to be?

I think accuracy is assumed. I've never seen anyone post a build and say they want it inaccurate

Screwed it on to a Aero Precision upper. 1st 3 groups of 3 rounds with 123 SST factory were .750 .825 and .750

well i agree accuracy potential is on the barrel. but i do not consider myself a 'precision shooter' and i know that no matter how accurate the barrel is, i will be the determining factor. would i like 5, 10, 20 round sub moa?
sure, but im being realistic. i dont shoot competition, i dont hunt as much as i used to, so it wil most likely be used to punch paper.

range? i can do 100yds at home. 500 or more at various ranges near me.
this is what i posted on arfcom

                          so i have a 16" ar with 5.56 chamber

i was originally thinking about a 20" with 223 wylde

                          then i ran across 6.8 and 6.5

i am leaning 6.5grendel based on research

                          i dont know why

lower is done, it time to assemble an upper, but i just cant decide really.

anyone wanna puch me off the ledge?

                          i do not relaod

                          use? im not really sure.
i only bought the lowers because .gov says they are evil.
i guess it to fit into the collection someplace
                          i have 22, 30-30, 30-06, 7mm mag, 300 wby

just added the 5.56, and want something else

the more versitile it is the better of course

                            MD:

Do yourself a favor and get a good barrel. There are several threads on the best barrel to buy so run a search if you want. Before you buy one, come back and ask the opinions of forum members.

I am one of those folks who considers the barrel to be the most important part of the rifle or carbine in terms of performance. You can get away with rack grade bolts, bolt carriers, forends, stocks, and trigger but you won't get away with a barrel of unknown manufacture or one considered to be service or hunting grade.

Shaws are a prime example. They will shoot just fine at 100 yards but shoot them at 500 and you see a huge difference between them and a barrel marketed to competitive shooters by top name companies.

You need to know if a problem is due to you, your loads, or the equipment and within the equipment part, the quality of the barrel has the greatest effect.

You need to be able to trust your equipment and this won't happen if the barrel isn't giving you performance.
