I usually do just under mag length. But if I'm doing something like single shot firing during a XTC at a NRA/CMP competition at 600 or 800, I have a hornady COAL gauge. You take what ever pill you want to use stick it in their modified case and stick it in your chamber. You'll find out right where your lands are and I back it off .001 or .002 depending on which rifle. I'm not sure its the best but it works.

I use the same method as MountainCur, the only difference is I like to color my bullet with a black marks-a-lot to ensure I see the slightest marks on the bullet and I usually recheck it after the die is set on at least 5 or 10 bullets.
