new midway hornady sst's with nickel primers, pierced
what is the length of your bolt? 2.800" or 2.810"? If you have the shorter bolt, your firing pin will protrude farther which may be there reason especially if they are now using softer primers...
the gun has 200rds of the reloads and hornady loads, no problem with flowing or pierce, new nickel primed sst's is the problem I believe, these ones are direct from midways replenished stock, hope not all the new factory hornadys are like this!
It is common for manufacturers to substitute components. In this case, I would suspect they used thin cupped primers, probably CCI 400's which are notorious for problems in ARs. However piercing isn't usually the problem, are you sure it isn't blanking instead. Blanking is when the primer material flows into the firing pin hole in the bolt face and shears a disk of primer material the diameter of the firing pin hole. You can check to see which it was by striping your bolt and seeing if it has a collection of blanks inside. Piercing is usually caused by a flame cut firing pin, creating a sharp bur that penetrates the primer. Replacing the firing pin usually corrects the situation. It can be hard to see the bur, if it is there, requires magnification.

ill get you guys some pics, but im pretty confident its the primers. Im not sure why hornady would let factory loads out that would be this sensitive, but this gun has functioned flawlessly thus far. I get 2650 on my chrono from these factory loads, out of a 24in barrel. Ive never had a problem before. My 10.5 has never had a problem, the gas runs great suppressed and normal, these new loads are the trouble. Im not bitching in any case, its cheaper to buy factory loads then brass, so im sure my reloads will be fine. With all the bullshit finger pointing lately with Grendel its just discouraging to see hornady go to a softer primer(if that's the case). Im sure theyre just doing what they can though to keep the supply up.
Anyone else having this issue with the SST's? I could order some, but I prefer the Amax and this thread has me wondering if it's worth the risk to order any before hearing more feedback from others regaring the current lot that's just out.

We either hang together on this, or we'll certainly HANG separately.....
No way,,, I knew a guy that had Nigerian Monkey Pox and had a very bad case of it. He had to take three Grendels and that cured him in just under a day!! BANG BANG!!!
