  • Benchmark powder and Barnes bullets?

I called And talked to Barnes bullets the today, They gave me load data for the 100 Grn TTSX bullets using Benchmark and 8280 XRB powder. I have seen others Have been using the 8280 XRB with great results. I was wondering if anyone has tried Benchmark with this bullet? If so what were the results?
This is the info Barnes gave me.

    100 Grn TTSX C.O.A.L 2.26
    Powder
8280 xbr Min load=26.5 Max Load=29.5 FPS max load 2852
Benchmark Min load= 26.2 Max load=29.1 FPS for max load 2816

I seen in the Grendel reloading manual that the Nosler 100 Grn boat tail was listed with benchmark powder with a starting load of 27.0 and a max load of 29.9 compressed.

Benchmark is my favorite for 100 grain loads. I have loaded 100G TTSX's with Benchmark... I'll go through my records tomorrow and get the load info.

The AA data also lists BenchMark for the Barnes 110gr Banded Solid.

One of the main things I will say is to start with 10% below max loads, and work up with no greater than .4gr increments in the Grendel. I usually do .3gr increments after letting my scale settle for a while.

Thanks LRRPF52 I will keep that in mind, I usually step powder loads by .2gn increments. John0D I look forward to seeing what you were able to work up for the 100 TTSX.

Not to scare you or upset the masses here, but Barnes has been known to send out Quickload data if they have not actually tested the load.

mseric I was wondering were you were able to find those charts? I was told by Barnes that they were not able to send out any information via emails or print just yet as they are working on there next manual. But if you called them they could give you the data over the phone I am not sure what sense this makes but thats what the told me.

What it means is that the data Barnes gave you over the phone is not tested data , but computer generated data via Quickload.

Thanks Johnod I have some of the Nosler 120 grn B-tips. I venture to say I will see similar results from my gun with the Barnes bullets. From what I have been reading on here is that the Barnes bullets just don't seem to be as accurate as some of the other bullets of similar grn weights. I ordered some of Barnes Tac tx bullets so If I ever get a day off and its not 20 knot winds I will post my range results with them and the 120 grn b-tip Noslers.
