Is there any big difference in accuracy between these 2 bullets. I want to order some supplies but the 123 gr AMAX is out of stock, the 120 gr AMAX is in stock.
I have been following the preferred loads thread and ordered some supplies for reloading. I picked up 400 of the Nosler blemished 123 gr CC, 300 Sierra 120 gr BTHP MatchKings and 300 Hornady 123 gr AMAX.
I have 200 rnds of Wolf 120 gr MPT and 400 rnds of Hornady 123 gr AMAX. I plan on using the Wolf brass to reload the Nosler 123 CC(then retire the brass) and the Hornady brass for the Hornady 123 AMAX and 120 gr Sierra Matchkings. I have 1K of Wolf SRM primers, just need to get powder. I'll keep reading and decide on what powder to use.
This will be my first try at reloading and I really appreciate all of the info I am finding here on the loads you guys are using. I hope I have enough of the right supplies at this point to keep me going for a while.
I am still waiting on my J&T 20" SS kit to arrive.
BUT...the 120 has a fairly blunt ogive, and must be loaded shorter than mag length, taking up powder room in the cartridge.
To be very specific, many of us ran into seating depth issues with the 120g AMAX where it could not be seated deep enough to clear the lands without excessively compressing the powder.
Just not worth fooling with, the 123g's work so much better with multiple loadings
captk- just a heads up- the AA/lapua & also the hornady brass take small rifle primers, whereas the wolff brass uses large rifle primers.
Also, before the 123 Amax came out , I used 120 amax & they shot great for me ( AA barrel & chamber) I used the hornady oal guage & measured & did col tests & ended up at 2.185'' for the 120 a max. I shot them out to 700 yards.
The 123 amax will be more forgiving (easier to find the sweet spot for the col) also many guys find the nosler 120bt's shoot great & are easy to load (but a bit spendy for target shooting).

very importan to use a hornady oal length guage with the bullet you intend to shoot. i have a CSS chamber and two of my buddys have lbc264 versions, none of us are the same. there are to many variations in the grendel based chambers.
