    120 SMK's and cfe223?

I can't for the life of me find any data on using the Sierra 120 SMK's with cfe223. Moreover, I am nowhere near confident enought to make any loadings using a burn rate chart. Does anyone have any input?
Also, Im off to do some 600yd testing saturday with a few loads I hope will show some promise. Let me onow what you think. All loadings are using Hornaday once fired brass. FL resized and trimmed.

130 VLD at 2.44 (a couple .000's below where the round would just barely chamber)
Using Blc (2) from (if memory serves me correctly) 28.3-29.4 and a fed205m primer

    Sierra 107 SMK at 2.26
    Using 8208xbr from 29.1-30.1 also with a fed205m

And finally a Sierra 120 SMK at 2.2
Using blc (2) at 31.3-32.1 again with a fed 205

Rifle basics are, 20" Schnieder polygonal and a headspaced AA bolt and barrel extension sitting on a mega hd billet upper with a U.S optics sn-3

Any help/advice would be well recieved.

    Dave,

Bwild97's data that was compiled by Rickoshay shows 31.0gr-32.0gr of CFE under the 120gr SMK, loaded to 2.230" using 5 different types of powders, generating between 2690-2759fps out of a 24" barrel. Not sure what brass he was using. Work up from 28.0gr, but I'm guessing 28.0gr will be pretty low-ball speed-wise. If your leade is that close, so that the 130VLD is almost touching at 2.44", I think you have a shorter average COAL to play with.

Correction: I thought you posted 2.240". 2.440" is a single-fed COAL way past mag length. My bad.

I just picked up some CFE today myself, so I'm going to see what we can do with several pills I have and the 16" carbine.

31 grains of CFE gave 2563 FPS in my LW 22 inch barrel. COL was 2.2075. Primer was a CI 450

Thanks for the info! I'll post the results from this coming weekend once I get all the data compiled. I'll load up some 120's tonight with the cfe. I've got high hopes for the VLD's. I'm hoping the longer leade combined with what we'll call a "lack" of rifling will net me some higher speeds. I really need the BC of the VLD if I'm going to climb the ranks at these 1000yd NBRSA competitions. I'm pretty sure I'll never win but I do get the occasional 8" group which gives me great hope lol

Correction to my post on the COAL. I though it read 2.240", versus 2.440". I just loaded up a bunch of 129gr SST's last night on CFE at 2.290". I'll run 3 batches of the same ladder test to see what I get.
