    COAL Question?

I finally measured the length of the lands in my bolt gun...
Jam is 2.446" with the Sierra 123 match kings... I checked it 3 times and it the same measurement each time...
So, my question is where would you start with the bullet seating depth?
I know I have to do this for different bullets but I started with the match king...

    Thank you...

If it needs to fit in a magazine, that is the max o.a.l. I like to start minus twenty thousands from the lands or about minus 10 thousands from magazine max.

Sierra are much more forgiving or less finicky with seating depth than eld or VLD style bullets. I always started .05 off the lands, but some pretty serious f-class shooters that would start .1 off the lands with sierra matching bullets. The eld and vld bullets usually like being at the lands

Loaded a lot of SMK's over the years from 30 cal down top 20 cal. Most liked .025 - .035 with the exception of 80 grain 22's, darn things liked em .005 from lands, and that same barrel liked 80 Bergers a whopping .080 from lands. But I would say start them at .035 and move them in .005 at a time. I just picked up 500 123's and that is where I will start
        .

Ok I had my husband measure my jam on the Uintah...
                Sierra SMK jam 2.435
                Barnes 120 Match 2.392
                Hornady 120 ELD jam 2.340
                Hornady 123 ELD jam 2.412
                Hornady 130 ELD jam 2.438
                Lapua 123 jam 2.393
                Lapua 108 jam 2.398
Berger 130 VLD Target jam 2.482
I will start by backing off 0.030 on each of these bullets...
Let me know what you all think...
                Thanks in advance...

Im surprised at those Lapua numbers. I expected the ogave to be more similar to the 130gr vld. Just bought a bunch of barnes matchburners expecting i could get them alot closer to the rifling at mag length. I sure gambled that wrong by the looks of it with a big B.C sacrifice.

The Barnes 120 Match Burners are very accurate in both my rifles at 2.260 which is magazine length... I took all the measurements because I was curious to see what they were...
                    Your rifle might measure differently...

Hoping for some good results. The price was definitely right.. $10-15 cheaper per box than anything comparable.

Some of my 3 shot groups...
My 3 shot groups at 100 yards with the Uintah 6.5 Grendel... Weather 48 F wind 10 mph >... I'm very happy with the results...

Loaded some 120 grain Barnes Match Burners yesterday with 26.5 grains of Benchmark just to see how well they would shootout out of my Uintah Precision 6.5 Grendel... Here's today's results... The guy on bench next to me let me fire 3 rounds through his chronograph and I was only able to get one reading of 2481 fps before it

That is some good work right there. I love my UP uppers. Between myself and a buddy we own four of them in various calibers and swap them back and forth as needed. They are good stuff!
