    Nosler 120gr NBT Factory Load

I picked up a few boxes of this last year and finally got around to trying it out. I have to say that I'm not impressed at all. The recoil was unusually low. It seems to be loaded with two distinctly different charges because the velocity was almost identical for 3 shots at 2036 fps and the other 3 at 2110 fps. The higher velocity 3 were all touching in the bullseye and the other 3 were touching 1.5" low and 3/4" left. That is from an 18" barrel which usually runs pretty fast. Just to rule out a defective chono, I tried the SST factory ammo and it was running 2576 and Wolf was at 2626 fps. I've always been a big fan of Nosler bullets but this is my first time trying their ammo. They rate the velocity pretty low for a 120gr bullet at 2400 fps but I didn't expect it lose that much velocity when all the other factory ammo has been close to advertised speed. Just a heads up in case someone comes across it. Way too expensive for pulling apart to reload and too weak to use for anything other than short range.

I have had great success using the 120 NBT but with handloads.

Using my 18" I have a 2405 fps load that shoots 0.72" at 100 yds using Hornady case, AR Comp-27.6grs, with an SD of 14.7 and ES of 31. Coal is 2.230 and OTB is 1.706.

Same load in my 12.7" is around 2250 fps.

Something was not right with that 120 NBT load. ----- That 123 SST is screaming fast.
