I was prepping some brass and once cleaned and deprimed I started weigh them and the PPU had a difference of 2 grains variation while the Hornady had a 7 grain variation! I didn't expect that much difference in Hornady brass.

So sorted out 160 pieces and broke them down into 113, 114, 115 and 116+ grains. The biggest spread was in 116s varying from 116-120 grains! -

They were once fired brass a friend had in original Hornady factory ammo boxes and I cleaned them in a tumbler with stainless steel media that I posted on here. They came out real nice and clean and since I had time on my hands I decided to weigh them for SG and was surprised at variation! Only thing i can think of is since it was factory ammo maybe it was lot to lot variation. My bud only wanted $20 bucks, couldn't pass up the deal.Comment

Double checked the boxes and they are 5 different lot numbers so I can see where there were two weights had 30+ cases within the same weight range and the rest were all different!Comment

I've never seen that kind of variation and I've weighed a lot of cases over the years.

The other observation was that the PPU brass has LR primers while Hornady is SR.Comment

PPU new lots of ammo for 2019 were said to have Small Rifle Primers at SHOT.
