Has anyone did any in-depth testing on the effects of different primers. I can see it might make a difference in a hight accurate bench gun but can I really expect to "measure" the difference in an AR platform.

I have found that the difference in "hotness" between brands can make a measurable difference in accuracy. I generally use Federals by default since I find them easier to work with. Nonetheless I wasn't getting what I thought I should be getting with GM210Ms and H4350 in my creedmore. Tried BR2's (a little "cooler") and there was a measurable difference in group sizes.Let's go Brandon!

From my personal experience with loading 556 ammo with Federal primers for an AR-15, slam fires are absolutely a legitimate threat!
Stick with the recommended primers in semi autos.
Huge safety warning from personal experience. Don't use Federal primers.
As far as accuracy goes using different primers, you may or may not see it. It depends on how accurate your barrel wants to be.
If it makes a difference to your weapon and load, you might be talking a half inch at 100 yards difference.
Or possibly no difference at all. Wont know till you try.Last edited by OpFor1; 02-28-2019, 12:34 PM.

Slamfires in AR and M1A platforms can sometimes be brought on by too much/wrong kind of oil on firing pin. They need to be lightly lubricated and wiped nearly dry with a non gumming/freezing lube. The channel needs to be clean too.
Slip2000 EWL has many advocates.
As far as different primers, it's hard to say. I did a limited test in my 5.56 AR a few years ago between 41's and 7.5's at 200yds. Load was 24.8 RL 15 under 69SMK in Rem cases, the 7.5's seemed to run a little tighter/rounder, but not by much.Last edited by Mad Charlie; 02-28-2019, 10:26 PM.
