Found my ABLR Load - try it you may like it.

I had a chance today to go to a private range with a friend who is member. It was my first experience at ranges beyond 200 yards.

I had a chance to shoot the American Gunner with really good results to 500 yards. The load was chronographed at avg of 2389 fps out of my odin works 18" DMR barrel. It performed good.

I then moved to my Nosler ABLR 129gr 26.9 grains of AR Comp, seated to 2.265 (1.641 Ogive to Base). Checked zeroed at 100 yards and put three in the same hole. I then worked out to 200, 250, 350, 400 and 500 yards using the Lapua Ballistics calculator and it was right on at every yardage.

At 500 yards I hit the 1 MOA plate on my first try, then proceeded to hit 2 out of 3 followup shots before running out of ammo.
I only brought 20 rounds to test, I'm out of AR Comp....

The 129 ABLR AR Comp load averaged 2363, with a SD of 8.3 and ES of 21.

I'm sold on this ABLR load. At 500 yards it was 3.8 mills of elevation, the wind was 10-15 mph right to left, it was a half plate windage about 2.5 inches.

In comparison to the AG, which was a full plate windage and 3.9 mills of elevation even with the faster FPS.

Anyone who is working with this ABLR you may consider using AR Comp. This same load in my 12.7" faxon shots lights out also. I would be intrested in your results.

Great work on that load sir.

I like cfe under the ablr myself, deer season now so don't have time to finish my workup with it.

      Nice work!

Glad to see AR Comp is a viable option - from what I've read, it is much more temp stable than CFE.

I'll probably start working up my 129 ABLR load in the spring with AR Comp now, looking to dial in on an accurate hunting load that can handle from 40 to 100 degree outside temps without being impacted much.

The ABLR @ 2300 fps MV is deadly on deer, and even moose at close range. A great hunting bullet for the Grendel

What do you consider to be Close Range?

I think you'd want to be inside 200 yards, keeping impact speeds above 2000 fps/1200 ft lbs energy. Shot placement is always most important too. Amazing what kills, when the bullet hits where it needs to be

What length barrel gave you the 2363 and what was your fps with 12 inch

The 2363 fps was with an 18" Odin Works DMR barrel. Sorry should have posted that as well. My 12.7 Faxon is running about 2120 if I remember right.

26.5gr of AR Comp gets me 2340fps out of a 20" Howa Mini HB, COL is 1.65" ogive to base and excellent accuracy. 27gr got me 4 in one hole, 1 flier, but the 26.5 is much less sensitive to seating depth than the 27gr load was. Did just fine on 2 deer this year, neck shots at 17 and 67 yds.

I just ordered 2 boxes on sale. I plan on using CFE powder because I have plenty of it.

This is my second deer this season with my ABLR handloads. They're going 2345 fps at the muzzle (18" barrel, IMR 8208), and while this one was at like 20 yds, I got one a few weeks ago at 175 that looked the same. This is the exit wound side, and he and made it about 10 yds before dropping, the earlier one didn't even take a step.

Nosler lists the minimum velocity threshold for expansion at 1300 fps. It's designed with a thinner jacket to expand at longer ranges and lower velocities. Because of this it works really well at Grendel velocities. Launched at 2350 it still has 1760 fps and 900 ft lbs at 400 yds.

16” AA. My previous best load for the 129 ABLR was 30.8 g CFE. 2341 FPS. 0.8” at 100 yds. Hornady brass, CCI450. I tried some ARCOMP based on this thread. Worked up to 26.9 g. 2321 FPS. Similar accuracy. Thanks for this other powder option that’s more temp stable.

grendelnubi what case and primer are you using? I wanted to give the 129 LRAB a try in one of my Grendel's for this deer season but I could never find any, always out of stock. The exit on the pictured deer looks just like the exit of the 130 Accubond from my 264 Win mag on deer shot anywhere between 25 and a touch over 500 yards and it is going 3350 fps at the muzzle. Awesome bullet for the fast magnums, I debated about giving it a try in the Grendel but decided it may be a bit too tuff. I went with the 120 Speer Gold Dot but only got to shoot one deer but it worked awesomely.
