The Need For Speed, thank you Underwood, new 6.5 Grendel coming !

I just got an email telling me that Underwood ammo is getting ready to release 6.5 Grendel ammo.
YeeHaw, I love the 125gr .357 Sig ammo they make that will honestly do 1400+fps in my little Glock 33
Their heavy 41 mag load is kickass to shoot out of a 4 5/8" Bisley Blackhawk custom I built a few years ago

Any word on specifically what they will be selling? Whose components, weights, loads? Exciting to have even more options coming.

Underwood list only one load for 6.8 SPC and I think it was 110 grain V-Max. I figure a 123 grain bullet from Hornady or Sierra. A 123 grain Sierra Tipped Match King might sell pretty good or might just use 123 grain ELD-M.

no details but if you look at the loadings Underwood has in their offerings, you will see they love to push the envelope and apparently love high velocity rounds with excellent projectile design that they can retail for decent price point.
I would love to see them offer a 95-110gr varmint load, a good 120 - 130gr hunting load that can make an honest 2500 FPS from an 18" barrel and a 120-130gr target load that is affordable price point to give Hornady Black and Federal American Eagle some competition

Got an E-mail this morning. They said they haven't decided what loads they will offer yet.

I would figure it takes awhile to work up the best combo of velocity, accuracy and cost per round to end user, while maintaining a profitable and safe enough to avoid recalls consistency for any supplier. Lots of people making 6.8 SPC and yet, I personally do not know anyone who shoots it. 300 Blackout, lots of folks, 6.5 Grendel, I run into more every day it seems. Ruger chambering the American Predator rifle in 6.5 Grendel and the number of folks building uppers evidenced by cost and availability of Grendel rifle parts, is a good selling point along with the consistant "out of stock" on every retailer's shelfs.

I suspect that the 6.5G ammo market is about to explode. I've seen 224 Valkyrie, 6.8 SPC and 300 BO in abundance just sitting on the shelves getting dusty while all the spots for Grendel ammo are empty.....all the time. It may dissuade some folks from getting into the caliber but if the situation plays out like it appears to be we'll see a plethora of ammo choices in the near future.

Also the fact that boutique ammo makers such as Underwood are getting into the game has me pretty confident that the G will soon be as common as many of the other popular crossover AR/Bolt action calibers.

My decision to start reloading over two decades ago has paid off in spades over those years.....Not necessarily by saving money but more importantly by allowing me to shoot many oddball or less popular calibers that would otherwise have been cost prohibitive to acquire.....Not to mention never missing a beat during panic induced ammo shortages!
