That's all you need, plus access to the internet. If you want to run something by the good folks on the forum, ask away. No question is a silly question.

I take it you are already familiar with external and internal ballistic programs like JBM?

Nice rifle and scope. You should start at reduced loads and note the recoil should be less than factory rounds.
If they are not, something is wrong.

              Klem,
              +1
Also could use 2 cantilever rings but the one piece mount is easier and more rigid.

That scope is too far back for the AR15 though. I realise you are trying to keep both mounts on the upper which is a good thing but your eye relief now puts your head way back on that stock. The back of your scope needs to be level with the charge handle and for that you need a cantilever mount specifically designed for Ar15's. By doing this you also bring the centre of gravity closer to you which will help when shooting unsupported. Like this...
Appreciate the info. When I mounted the scope I tried to set it so my eye relief was set to where my left cheek (Lh shooter) was in the center of the cheek test when the rifle was in a comfortable shooting position, and yes I was trying to keep my rings on the upper. Would it be highly beneficial for me to move it forward so it lines up with the charging handle?

The biggest advantage for moving it forward or up and forward is ease of access to the charging handle. Your stock has a good amount of LOP adjustment. So if you move it forward you still will be able to center your cheek.

Once you try the one piece mounts you wonder why you ever messed with 2 piece rings on an ar. Burris PEPOR mount use to be the best value at around 75.00 SWFA makes a similar one with inserts for 1" or 30mm tubes for around 65.00 missed the one day new year sale on them for 40.00

Buy that optic a mount meant for its tube size. The inserts can work, but they can fail hard too. The forward cantilever mounts are worth the price, and good ones are more expensive. I’ve never seen a complaint about the fixed P.E.P.R. Mounts, the quick disconnect version apparently works okay. The biggest thing about this is making the shooting position as natural as possible, any crane to your neck and you need to move it.

The xtr ii is a 34mm tube, do they make them in 34mm?

Of course. Like all 34mm tube related mounts, they are slightly more expensive. ~$90 on Amazon.

                                Blake,

There are a few options for 34mm one-piece cantilever mounts. Using the search function of this forum will get you some more information on this including a few opinions. Don't know what your budget is but it's like most things, you tend to get what you pay for.

Other choices tend to be more expensive and arguably better quality than the suggestions above. There is also more brand equity reflected in the price of some than others which is a waste of your money but that's marketing for you. Everyone has their favourites and most will do the job.
