Results with 123gr Rounds and Varget

I'm seeing result pages on the facebook 65grendel page about people having decent results with Varget under 123gr pills. Has anyone tried it? I was getting the idea that the powder in grendel was almost taboo....

Varget is listed in AA's data. I would recommend getting the 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbooks. There's a sticky here as well to the AA data.

How much you using behind 123 gr pills?

I have some because I have been reloading 35 Remington.

Never thought about trying Leverevelotion in the Grendel

Varget and CFE both need a fair bit of compression to get enough pressure for decent velocities.

Also, my own experience with Varget in other cartridges is that it takes a lot of taps to settle to the extent that it meters to within 0.2 grains either side of desired. Before the settling is complete, I saw a half grain or more gain in nominal charges of 50 grains.

CFE settles down rather quickly -- usually within about ten to fifteen throws with the powder measure.

I'm looking at Volume I now with the AA data, and they tried Varget with:

            123gr Scenar and 123gr SMK getting 2400fps from a 24" barrel, whereas AA2520 got 2630fps

130gr Swift Scirocco on Varget got 2312fps

140gr Lapua Naturalis on Varget got 2220fps
