    RCBS Case Trimmer Collet #

I have and RSBS #1 collet for my trimmer and the Grendel cartridge will not fit. RCBS does not list the 6.5 Grendel in their reference chart, so I called them. They guy told me I needed to call Anderson Arms. I said, "do you mean Alexander Arms"? He said "oh yea that's it". I asked if Alexander Arms would have a collet that would fit an RCBS trimmer and it got worse.

Anyway, can anyone out there tell me if there is an RCBS collet that will work with the Grendel? I'm sure I will get more help here that I did at RCBS.

If it holds a 7.62x39 or .308, it should hold the grendel case...

The 7.62x39 - .308/.311 is listed in the reference chart and it calls for a #3 collet. Thanks explorecaves! Big help!

No problem. For future reference, you can fire form the 7.62x39 case or cut the shoulder off the .308 and resize for the grendel. The .308 isn't ideal but will work in a pinch.

I hate the collet type case trimmers .If you have any varience in rim diameter your trim length will vary also . The new trimmer with the plates works much better .

            Arnie,

Tell me more about these trimmers with plates. Are you talking about the ones that you run with a drill? I have noticed the variations in trim length as well.

He is talking about the rcbs trim pro 1. It uses special shell plates to hold the case. The new trim pro2 is an updated model that uses a universal spring loaded shellholder the keeps you from having to buy a bunch of shellplates for your trimmer.

I have Lyman universal trimmer but I'm going to the trim pro 2 with the 3 way cutter head. This head chamfers trims and deburs all in one step. I have a hard time holding cases while chamfering and deburring.

Yes I use the trim pro and the three way head and it works fantastic .No more having to trim and then chamfer inside and out side . Once you get the trim head set I find if you size the necks to the same diameter on every case it will trim all of them with the same chamfer .

Guys, remember that Valentine's Day is coming up, and Brownell's has a very cool promotional this year:

Be smart, think of your family, and do the right thing.

How do you use 308 for Grendel.
I thought the brass is too large.
The rim is .473 diameter and brass is thicker.
                            Got lots of 308 brass.
I use a 7.62x39 shell plate on my rcbs trimmer.
I'm going to fireform some Rem,Win,and IMI 7.62x39 brass for plinking when the weather gets better.

I haven't done it myself, but have seen it done. And as I said, it isn't ideal but if you are in a pinch, it will work. Order of preference for brass would be: 6.5 grendel, .264 LBC, 7.62x39, then .308 as a last resort.
